It is an anti-allergic, antihistamine drug, whose active substance is cetirizine dihydrochloride. An antihistamine is a drug that inhibits the action of histamine . It is normally used to relieve symptoms associated with some forms of allergies , particularly allergic rhinitis.
It is used in adults and children over 6 years of age to:
- Relieve nasal and ocular symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
- Relieving the symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria
How to Use
The lozenges are to be placed in the mouth and sucked. Cetix can be taken regardless of meal times.
Dosage:
- Adults and children over 12 years of age: Start treatment with 5 mg (half a tablet) or 10 mg (1 tablet) per day, depending on the severity of symptoms. In most cases, the initial dose is 10 mg, in a single dose.
- Children aged 6 to 11 years: Cetix should not be given to children of this age unless prescribed by a doctor. The recommended dosage is the same as that recommended for adults.
- Elderly: In patients over 77 years of age, the recommended dose is 5 mg.
CETIX 10 mg/lozenge (cetirizine dihydrochloride) is a non-prescription medicine indicated for adults and children aged > 6 years for the relief of nasal and ocular symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis; relief of chronic idiopathic urticaria. The lozenge is to be placed in the mouth and sucked. Adults and adolescents aged > 12 years: 1 tablet, 1x/day; Children aged 6-12 years: half a tablet, 2x/day; Patients with moderate to severe renal insufficiency: half a tablet, 1x/day. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity (allergy) to the active substance or to any of the excipients, to hydroxyzine or to piperazine derivatives; severe renal disease (creatinine clearance <10 ml/min).
