Quick-Guide: How to organize your medicine cabinet (at home)
When you need a bandage or an antipyretic, it's not the time to dig through your cabinet. A disorganized home pharmacy can turn a minor setback into a major stressor. And even worse: expired medications can put your health at risk.

That's why we've created this quick and straightforward guide: everything you should have at home, how to organize it, and when to replenish.
Step 1: Take everything out
Literally. Open the cabinet, drawer, or box where you store medications and first aid products, and spread everything out on a clean surface. You'll need space to see what you have (and what should have been thrown out a long time ago).
Step 2: Check expiration dates
ruthlessly dispose of:
-
Everything that is expired
-
Packages opened more than 6 months ago (creams, eye drops, syrups)
-
Medications without leaflets or with incomplete blisters and no identification
Return expired medications to the pharmacy – never throw them in regular trash.
Step 3: Organize by categories
Separate by type or need:
-
Pain and fever (paracetamol, ibuprofen)
-
Digestive system (antacids, probiotics, anti-diarrheals)
-
Colds and flu (decongestants, lozenges, nasal sprays)
-
Wounds and first aid (bandages, disinfectant, saline solution)
-
Skin and reactions (burn cream, insect bites, moisturizing cream)
-
Allergies and other chronic conditions (antihistamines, regular medication)
Store everything in separate, well-labeled boxes or dividers.
Step 4: Pay attention to the storage location
-
It should be cool, dry, and away from light (bathroom or kitchen: no!)
-
Out of reach of children
-
Ideally in a locked box or a high cabinet with shelves
